"USA -- A California toxicologist/pathologist has embarked
on a one-man crusade to show that HIV - "the AIDS virus" - does not cause AIDS,
that current anti-HIV drugs are dangerous and AIDS-causing in and of themselves,
and that
"the current unscientific and tragic approach to AIDS treatment must be stopped now."
But what Mohammed Ali Al-Bayati PhD DABT DABW has so far secured for his efforts in writing President Bill
Clinton, Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Donna E. Shalala and others in positions of authority are a
deafening silence - and a suggestion from the government's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that
any questioning of the "infectious-agent" nature of AIDS is "not only misleading, but may have dangerous
consequences."
Even so, the well credentialed Dixon CA scientist has added an impressive voice (through his recently released book
Get All the Facts: HIV Does Not Cause AIDS; Dixon CA: Toxi-Health International, trade paperback, 183 pp., 1999,
$35) to the chorus of a thousand or so credentialed scientists worldwide who dissent from the HIV theory of AIDS
causation. A mernber of the growing Committee to Re-Evaluate the HIV Hypothesis told the ICHF that "here is one
more attack on the HIV theory. You can attack the theory many different ways and you still come up with the same
result: HIV is not the cause of AIDS."
Dr. Al-Bayati, who founded and heads Toxi-Health International said he used "differential diagnosis" techniques to
evaluate biomedical data from more than a thousand published articles and standard textbooks.
His conclusions:
AIDS in homosexuals, drug users, hemophiliacs, infants and children in the West is caused more by synthetic
steroids (glucocorticoids) and other immunosuppressive agents than anything else. AIDS in Africa is caused by
malnutrition, "release of endogenous cortisol" and opportunistic diseases.
Moreover, the use of such anti-AIDS drugs as AZT, protease inhibitors and glucocorticoids - all "highly, toxic" -- can
cause AIDS in asymptomatic patients and worsen the disease in full-blown cases. "These drugs do not have any
therapeutic value, and their use must be discontinued immediately," he argues.
Using epidemiological data, Dr. Al-Bayati found that "damage to the immune system is rapidly reversible after removal
of the true insulting agent(s) or treatment of the true causes."
A non-physician, the veteran toxicologist - who laments that "toxicology is excluded from our healthcare industry" -
suggests "proper nutrition" and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA, also called thioctic acid), available for more than two decades,
as key elements in
AIDS treatments, as well as a cessation of the use of AZT and protease inhibitors in asymptomatic patients and "limiting the use of
glucocorticoids in the treatment of chronic conditions and in the treatment of people with AIDS."
In his letter to HHS Secretary Shalala, he outlined his basic findings and called for the immediate discontinuance of
AZT and related drugs.
In a three-page response, Helen D. Gayle MD NTH, director of the National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention within the CDC, wrote
(Sept. 23, 1999):
"Although the scientific evidence is overwhelming and compelling that HIV is the cause of AIDS, as with many complex conditions, the
disease process is no (sic) completely understood. This perhaps has led some to theorize that AIDS is not caused by an infectious agent.
AT CDC, we believe that this position is not only misleading, but may have dangerous consequences."
(Said a credenitialed dissident well-known to ICHF: "Yes, dangerous to the CDC and to the HIV industry.")
Dr. Gayle's response did not include the fact that there are at least a thousand well-credentialed researchers/scientists/physicians who
have questioned the HIV hypothesis, including two Nobel Laureates, and world-famed Dr. Peter Duesberg, University of California Berkeley,
a major pioneer of oncogene research in cancer and the first major vocal dissident of the HIV hypothesis.
Dr. Al-Bayati said that what ignited his interest in the controversy was the development of AIDS in a 60-year-old HIV-negative
white male following 7 treatment with steroids and immunosuppressive drugs for lung fibrosis.
Following months of treatment (primarily with prednisone and azathioprine) his CD4 ("helper") cells plunged and the CD4 ("helper") and
CD8 ("suppressor") ratio was 0.6, immunological hallmarks of AIDS.
Symptomatically, the man had pneumonia and severe fungal infection of the mouth and skin, other hallmarks of AIDS.
"The development of AIDS in this man was by the use of therapeutic immunosuppressive agents," Dr. Al-Bayati concluded.
He has detailed how Kaposi's sarcoma - a common cancer associated with AIDS - and forms of lymphoma also associated with AIDS --are induced by the use of steroids and drugs, and the release of endogenous cortisol (an adrenal hormone whose imbalance, along with
that of ACTH, is increasingly noted in caves of immunological impairment. including Chronic Faligue Syndrome - editor). They are not
caused by a slow, virus.
"KS is reversible upon the termination of treatment with immunosuppressive agents prior to metastasis."
As to AIDS in Africa, which reportedly has a majority of the world's HIV infections and 'Full-blown AIDS" cases, Dr. Al-Bayati claims:
'"AIDS in Africa is caused by malnutrition, release of endogenous cortisol, and opportunistic diseases.
"Atrophy in the lymphoid tissue in people suffering from malnutrition has been known since 1925.
"Malnutrition causes severe atrophy in the thymus and lymphoid organs and impairs the functions of the T cells. These changes are
reversible by feeding. The size of the thymus in malnourished children increased from 20 percent of normal to 107 percent of normal,
following nine weeks of feeding."
He also lays the blame for AIDS in hemophiliacs and recipients of blood and/or tissue to drugs:
"AlDS in hemophiliacs is related to the use of corticosteroids and other immunosuppressive agents to prevent the development of
antibodies for factors VIII and IX and to treat other chronic diseases such as joint disease.
"AIDS in people receiving blood and/or tissue is related to the use of glucocorticoids to prevent rejections of transfusion and tissue
rejection, and to treat other illnesses.
"AIDS in infants and children is caused by, their exposure to drugs and corticosteroids in utero and their exposure to corticosteroids used
after birth to treat their chronic illnesses."
Concerning American homosexuals, the group in which AIDS was first diagnosed and named in 1981, Dr. Al-Bayati joins other dissidents
in pointing to illicit drug use and pre-existing opportunistic viral, bacteriological land fungal diseases as key causes.
Gastrointestinal diseases in "passive" homosexuals (often requiring the use of rectal steroids by orthodox medicine) join "poppers" (alkyl
nitrates), "recreational drugs" and alcohol abuse as major AIDS causers in one segment of the population, he argues.
As have other voices (see M.L. Culbert's Medical Armageddon, Chapter XIII), Dr. Al-Bavati takes aim at the growing number of both "slow
progressors" and "non-progressors" (persons said to be "positive" for HIV for 10 years or more without developing AIDS symptoms) and
those diagnosed with what the AIDS establishment calls "idiopathic CD4 lymphocytopenia" (translation: CD4 cells falling for no known
reason) in which AIDS-symptomatic patients are "negative" for HIV antibodies and antigens as epidemiological arguments against the HIV
causality theory.
High-water marks in his study of existing AIDS literature include the "astonishing" fact that the majority of AIDS patients who participated
in four major trials "were HIV-negative prior to their treatment with AZT" and a Tanzanian study in which T cells in all groups of 1,075 HIV-infected women studied rose thanks primarily to the organized administration of multivitamins.
He runs head-on into American ".AIDS czar" and key AIDS researcher Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose earlier work on glucocorticoids and their
effect on the human system sounded alarm bells about the side effects of such drugs - side effects now describable as AIDS, Dr. Al Bayati argues.
In fact, said the toxicologist/pathologist of earlier studies by Fauci and colleagues:
"I used their publications extensively as principal references for this report and to unravel the mysteries associated with AIDS.
"However, Fauci and his colleagues apparently overlooked significant medical facts presented in their publications and in the published
literature.
"They also did not explain the many cases of AIDS who are HIV negative and misunderstood the thousands of cases infected with HIV
who have not developed AIDS even over 10 years after infection...
"My review of the medical evidence indicates that ... leaders of the HIV hypothesis inadvertently misdirected the great resources of our
country by misunderstanding the etiology of the disease, promoting overly complex and incorrect pathogenic models, and by encouraging
the use of toxic drugs.
"It appears that the entire efforts of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) have been
focused on maintaining that HIV is the cause of AIDS and not on objectively evaluating the medical evidence.
"This tragic approach has to be stopped now. We need to use more valid scientific approaches in working to understand diseases."
